Quite a long time ago, I've read the book Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař. And today, I've discovered it's got a Netflix adaptation [insert meme]!
According to IMDB, the movie is not well-received but I think I might know the reason why. I read the book and I can tell you that it's pretty exotic. Very calm, absurd yet very human.
I'm looking forward to updating this post with a short report soon!
UPDATE: No update, the movie has only a little to do with the book. While it overlaps on the philosophical level (I hope), it failed to capture and recreate any single one feeling of my time reading the book. (in comparison, the first modern Dune movie captured such feelings almost perfectly). Verdict: waste of time, go read that book instead.
I hate to say this but if it were not for the Amazon Kindle app's integration with Goodreads, I would have never recovered those. Anyway, sort of old highlights from my read:
Existence runs on energy, a fluid movement forward, yet we never stop seeking the point of origin, the Big Bang that set us upon our inevitable course.
Once you trap yourself into believing you can be your own company, you will cross the dangerous line between contentment and madness.
Thus we never see the true State of our Condition, till it is illustrated to us by its Contraries; nor know how to value what we enjoy, but by the want of it.
...the sociocultural rituals of your society seem to be in conflict with biological reality.
No one is looking at me, no one appears to resent me in this moment, we are all beasts of tradition, slaves to ceremony.
